Information you choose to provide
Search entries
A name, location, or other term entered into a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. Powhatan County Busted Mugshots does not store or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages
If you send an email or submit a message through a contact option, we may retain the information in that message to respond and maintain the correspondence. We do not share it outside the organization unless disclosure is legally required.
Information collected through site use
When a browser loads a page, technical information may be collected through server, analytics, advertising, or similar services. This can include:
- Internet Protocol address
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Referring website, when one is supplied
- Date and time of access
Cookies
Cookies and similar technologies help measure site use and support basic functionality. Browser settings can limit or block cookies, although some features may then work differently.
How information is used
- To operate, maintain, and improve the site
- To pass a search request to the partner selected to handle it
- To understand which information visitors find useful
- To detect, diagnose, and correct technical problems
- To deliver advertising that may be based on interests
External sites and advertising
The site links to official jail and court resources, government portals, corrections locators, and third-party search services. Once you leave this site, the receiving organization’s privacy notice and practices apply. For example, official record-access material may discuss Va. Code § 2.2-3704, but that government procedure is separate from this notice.
Advertising partners may collect activity across websites to tailor advertising on their own systems. Their collection and controls are governed by their policies, not this one.
Parties that may receive information
We do not sell personal information. Information may be disclosed or made available to the following categories when needed for the purposes described here:
- Search partners that process a submitted search
- Analytics providers
- Advertising networks
- Law-enforcement agencies or government bodies responding to a valid legal order
Security practices
We use reasonable, standard measures intended to protect information under our control. No internet-connected service is fully secure, however, and we cannot promise that any transmission or storage system will be free from every risk.
Visitors under 18
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has supplied personal information, use the Get in Touch page to request its deletion.
Your information choices
- Ask whether we hold a copy of personal information about you
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Request deletion of personal information, subject to applicable obligations
- Ask to opt out of certain processing where that choice is available
